Things to know about Accelerated Reading (AR) for this year:
*Near the beginning of each quarter, each student will be taking the STAR test to determine their reading level.
*This reading level range will be used to guide students to find "good-fit" books in our classroom and school libraries to read at home and school to reach their AR Point Goal for the quarter.
*Each student will be responsible for reaching their individually tailored AR Point Goal each quarter by "voraciously reading" at school and at home nightly and will receive a grade based on how close you come to reaching the goal each quarter. Despite not assigning reading homework each night the students will still be responsible for reaching their quarterly goals.
*Students will be required to read at least 20 minutes/night at least 5 days/week.
*Students will be able to constantly track their AR Goal progress by using our chart in class.
AR Rules/Tips
*AR Tests must be taken at school.
*They must be above your lowest reading level.
For example, Level if you’re reading level 4.0-5.0, you cannot read a book below the 4.0 level.
*They must be part of the Accelerated Reading List. Check to see that the book is on the computer before reading by clicking the picture above that says "AR Book Finder".
*You cannot read a book you have previously tested on.
*Reading good-fit books and practicing quality reading are the best way to increase your reading level and stamina when we take the STAR test at the start of every quarter.
Is there a way as a parent that I can track my student's progress at home?
*Yes! By clicking on the Accelerated Reader Logo above this will take you to the school's AR page.
*After clicking the logo, select "I'm a Parent", then type your student's user name and password in a see their progress on the AR Home Connect Page. (The student login information is the same as the one they need to login to take tests at school.)
*Tip: You must either go through Addison Community Schools webpage or click the logo above in order to access the correct site. You cannot just Google, "Accelerated Reader" because it will not be the Addison AR site and it will not let you login!
*As always, if you have any questions or issues accessing everything just let me know and I would be happy to help!
